On the path to the volume segment

There is no doubt that the LED is a light source with many benefits: High efficiency, long lifespan, optimum light color and high luminance. However, these benefits can only be used to their optimal extent with suitable electronics. It is the task of electronics to light up the LEDs under all conditions and throughout its entire lifespan according to the lighting requirements. The development department at ZKW-Elektronik deals with this enlightening challenge every day, with the goal of supplying innovative headlamp systems with light. This leads to the creation of many types of light engines and control devices that the LED headlamps need in order to fulfill their actual function, namely to shine. In contrast to conventional halogen or xenon light sources, LEDs require high-precision current regulation. In addition, modulation levels must be designed to guarantee a consistent light color. Highly qualified employees provide the necessary expertise in the fields of electronics and software while ensuring top quality.

Areas of activity in electronic development

•    Design of LED base boards in terms of functionality and thermal management
•    Conceptual design of high-efficiency LED driver units to ensure that the requirements for power accuracy and modulation are met
•    Development of higher-level control units to depict the variety of required lighting functions, such as curve adaptive light and glare-free high beams
•    Thermal analysis and design of the overall system consisting of LED base board, cooling element and active or passive cooling concept

Areas of activity in software development

•    Development of robust, efficient and hardware-appropriate software based on the customer specifications and hardware interface description
•    Configuration of communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, ...) to ensure smooth functionality in the vehicle architecture
•    Embedding of complex functions in AUTOSAR environments
•    Verifications of functionality by means of automated “hardware in the loop (HIL)” test systems
•    Establishment of traceability from the requirements to the source code and all the way to the test case
